Janáček Piano Sonata 1.X.1905
Schumann Kreisleriana Op.16 (Phantasien für das Pianoforte)

Dominic’s playing is characterized by its great sensitivity for colour and sonority. He is also a highly gifted jazz pianist and the creative freedom required for great jazz playing is clear in his interpretations of classical repertoire. His growing list of prizes and successes in international competitions shows that he is definitely a pianist to watch for the future.

Janáček’s Piano Sonata is typically quixotic and unpredictable. From simple folk-like beginnings, it can veer into dark areas of tonality, take a small motive and obsess with it, and suddenly brew up a dramatic storm which just as suddenly clears. Listening to Janáček can be a wild ride, but always fascinating. Dominic pairs the Janáček with Schumann’s Kreisleriana, a characteristic early Romantic combination of the stormy and the poetic.
