Handel/Halvorsen Passacaglia for violin and cello
Martinu Duo for violin and cello No.2 in D major H.371
Kodaly Duo for violin and cello Op. 7

Caroline and Hannah are principal players at Manchester Camerata as well has having solo careers, and Manchester audiences will be familiar with their highly communicative playing, characterised by great musical imagination and feel for sound.  In combination, the musical rapport between them will be immediately clear, and this promises to be a musically dynamic and exciting recital.

The Handel-Halvorsen is a set of variations on a simple chord sequence which accumulates in excitement and intensity until, by the end, you would think there are at least four instruments playing! The Kodaly, with its Hungarian folk-derived material and its virtuosic string writing, is a powerful and atmospheric work, and the Martinu duo shows all the characteristics of this fascinating composer - simple folk-like material can become neurotic ostinato and passionate chromaticism in an instant.  Caroline and Hannah specialise in surprise encores, too, so be prepared to be unprepared!
