Mengyang Pan makes a swift return to the Mid-days after her much
admired Bridgewater Hall debut last season. The central work in
her programme is one of Debussy's less widely performed
'impressionistic' collection. Composed in 1907, the three piece
suite ends with a wonderful musical portrait of a pair of
goldfish.
Rachmaninov composed the second of his two piano sonatas in
1913. Regarded as one of the most difficult of all piano
sonatas, Rachmaninov shortened and revised the work in 1931,
whilst retaining its richly romantic character.
