Souza Winds was formed in 2005, whilst its five members were studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. Since then they have received many prestigious awards and have gained an enviable reputation for their engaging musicality and imaginative collaborations. The leading British composer Colin Matthews has described Sousa Winds 'as an ensemble to watch!'
For their Mid-day concerts debut, Souza Winds features three of the 'classic' wind quintets of the 20th century – the  colourful work that Danish composer Carl Nielsen fashioned for his friends in the Copenhagen Wind Quintet, Jacques Ibert's witty miniature suite and Samuel Barber's evocative 'tone poem' for his friends in the New York Wind Quintet)
